Files And Folders Are Hidden And Not Visible After Trojan Alert | How To Fix

The following article explains you how to troubleshoot when you receive a Trojan Alert (can be fake). It is quite easy to find if your system is mal functioning. As your memory (RAM) will be about 80 -90% when the Trojan window was up, normally it will be about 30%-50%.

if you activate windows restore, it will keep on checking and it wont let you close the windows either. And your antivirus software like MacAfee in particular will keep popping up with Trojan removed (Can be fake).

Your start menu or the accessories will be disappeared if your Windows really got a Trojan Attack. So you could not get to system restore.  You will be forced to use safe mode and run diagnostics, which will not report any problem as its not related to hard ware issue, its a virus attack.

All your files and will be hidden and in normal mode you wont be able to see your documents and files in Windows.  If you are having problems with the unhide program, you could  use the file menu settings to show the hidden files in explorer.

  • In Windows 7 and Windows Vista its under > Organise > folder and search options > view > show hidden files and folders.
  • In Windows XP its under > tools > folder options > view > show hidden files and folders

However when you change your folder option to display hidden files and operating system files, you can then see all the documents and pictures but will be highlighted in a different color than the ones which were not hidden. Why would documents be hidden and is the Trojan still there? Yes you really had a virus attack on your Windows.

Solution:

if you are using MacAfee website and downloaded there free "stinger.exe" program that is designed to remove and clean computers already infected.

You have to manually select "C" drive" and in the properties "unhide" all files, folders, etc to restore all of your icons and files so you could see them. If you cannot access your task manager, there is a fix in the registry for that. Just visit this link to fix it.

It is always sensible in this situation to run a check for malware. Boot the computer to safe mode with networking and download and install Malwarebytes (freeware version for home users only), update definitions and run in safe mode. Disable other security software whilst you are doing scans.

Download and run SuperAntiSpyware (Free Edition)

Some malware is now installing proxy server entries redirecting internet connections. If you encounter this problem see Step 2 in the link which follows:

You can also try Microsoft Security Essentials: Microsoft Security Essentials is the name of Microsoft’s latest Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware software for Windows operating system. It is already being tested internally at Microsoft and was launch in September last year.  Read more: http://www.bench3.com/2010/08/microsoft-security-essentials-for.html
