Conduit Engine appears to be some sort of browser extension/add-on.

But, in reality, Conduit has many preposterous features that make it easy to download without knowledge and very difficult to remove. It also produces lame, commercial search results. And add/remove programs does nothing.

You will still stuck with a fat, dumb search toolbar that serves no purpose but to infuriate.

The Conduit Engine add-on helps web sites silently install 3rd party code into your system and hooks their tools into your browsers.  In other words, the Conduit engine hooks into browsers, tracks searches, and can download other add-ons WITHOUT PERMISSION. It reset my default home and search pages too.  I consider that to be malicious behaviour. Do you really like apps or add-ons from sites you visit being silently installed without letting you know ?

And what's worse, the Conduit Engine uninstall doesn't delete all the entries that they hook into the registry, their Program Files folders, or clean-up their browser add-on entries.

Conduit Engine Symptom:

• The first symptom was Internet Explorer (or any other browser where it is installed) sessions will be taking too long for even a normal search query. (taking 4 seconds to go away after X'ing them closed).
• Then there will (may) be a pair of unexpected error shutdowns in Internet Explorer.
• This programme acts like a kind of virus, including a browser hijack. And removing it from Internet Explorer is almost impossible.

Solution To Remove Conduit Engine From The System:

I had downloaded a recent version of uTorrent (in your case you may have downloaded and installed a freeware program) and without knowledge, Conduit Engine was installed as well as a uTorrent toolbar on all of my browsers.

In Chrome and Firefox one can uninstall it under the add-ons. For IE which is integrated in Windows, the add/remove software feature should do it, but in my case it failed.

If you can track down what program your toolbar came from. You can use Revo Uninstaller to remove all entries from your computer's registry.

Just for example, My computer did have an uninstall program for Conduit but it did NOT remove the toolbars. Reinstalling uTorrent and then using Revo to uninstall took care of my problem.

Then I went to Revo, found the little wart, and excised it. All good now. I'm running XP Pro SP3.

The Quick Access Toolbar is an old option from Excel 2007 that can still be very useful. You probably use some Excel commands much more often than others. Having to switch between tabs to find the command you need might slow you down. The Quick Access Toolbar (Screen Shot Below) allows you to collect your favourite commands in one place. The default location of the Quick Access Toolbar is above the ribbon in the upper-left portion of the Excel window.

You can add a command to the Quick Access Toolbar simply by right-clicking the command and choosing Add To Quick Access Toolbar. You can also add commands by clicking File in the upper-left portion of the ribbon. Next click Options, and then display the Customize the Quick Access Toolbar page (shown in the second screen shot below).

After choosing a command you want to add, select Add, and click OK. Of course, the Move Up and Move Down arrows let you customize the order in which icons appear. You can remove any command from the Quick Access Toolbar by right-clicking the command, and then clicking Remove From Quick Access Toolbar. You can move the Quick Access Toolbar below the ribbon by right-clicking the toolbar, and selecting Show Below The Ribbon.

When I working with my laptop (which is running Vista Ultimate) loaded itself out of sleep mode I noticed that the battery, volume, and network icons in the system tray were missing:

Naturally I was puzzled by this, and a little annoyed because I could no longer tell how much battery life was left (important because I like to get up and go sit on the deck while I work every so often).  First thing I did was check the Taskbar properties, and found something odd:

As you can see in the above image, the checkboxes for the volume, network, and power icons are grayed out and not-selectable.  From my Windows development experience, I knew that Vista keeps a cache of recently used system tray icons in the registry, so on a hunch I popped open RegEdit and found where this cache is stored:

To make a long story short, I backed up the registry, deleted the "Icon Streams" and "Past Icons Stream" values, opened up the Task Manager, ended the "explorer.exe" process, restarted "explorer.exe" and just like that the missing icons had returned:

An odd problem, but thankfully one that is easily fixed. 

It's worth trying to restart explorer.exe (see Step 4) before trying the registry modifications, because that may fix the problem on its own.

• Go to Start > Run (or Windows-key + "R"), type in "regedit" and hit "OK".

 

 

• Navigate to the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion \TrayNotify"

 

 

• Delete the values "IconStreams" and "PastIconsStream"

 

 

• Now open up the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), go to the "Processes" tab, select "explorer.exe" and click "End Process"

 

 

• Now open the "Applications" tab and click "New Task..." at the bottom-right of the window.
  
  

 

• In the message box that pops up type in "explorer.exe" and hit "OK"

 

 

• Explorer.exe will reload, and that's it! The missing icons should now be back in the system-tray where they belong.
