Sony DSC-H100 Point & Shoot Advantages and Disadvantages

If you think mega zoom cameras are expensive, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H100 will pleasantly surprise you. Going by just the form and design, it easily comes across as an expensive, high-end model. But priced well under $300, it falls under the price range of premium ultra compact and travel zoom digital cameras. Let’s find out whether it’s just brawny or actually let’s you shoot like a pro.

The camera features a 3-inch LCD monitor with a resolution of 460K dots for framing shots and viewing photos. It’s a relief from low-resolution, 230K dots screens found on entry-level cameras. The Playback mode is interesting; pressing the Menu button brings up a menu from which you can touch up photos or start a slideshow with background music. You can rotate, crop and sharpen photos and even get rid of red eye.

This camera isn’t targeted specifically at pros. It’s meant to make taking good photos easy for everyone with the added advantage of a long zoom lens that starts from 25 mm and goes way up to 525 mm, translating to 21x optical zoom. This makes it a breeze to capture larger groups of people and wider area – even wide landscapes – without moving away too far.

Sony DSC-H100 Point & Shoot Advantages and Disadvantages

The H100 controls are much simpler than what’s found on travel zoom cameras—the control panel resembles one found on entry level point-and-shoot, but the buttons are larger and well-spread, which makes menu navigation and changing settings comfortable. The control panel comprises a 5-way D-pad and buttons for playback, Menu and In-camera Guide/Delete. The D-pad has shortcuts for flash settings, self-timer, smile shutter and display info. The lens is mated with optical image stabilisation mechanism to counter handshake and prevent blurry photos, especially at full zoom and in low light.

Sony DSC-H100 Point & Shoot Advantages and Disadvantages_1

Sony DSC-H100 Point & Shoot Advantages:

  • The camera is exceptionally sturdily built; all buttons & knobs feel firm in hand. Also the button layout is great, it’s almost impossible to pick it up without your hand automatically getting a good grip and thumb & index finger finding a ergonomic position.

  • It has a 16.1 megapixel, 11.04 mm Super HAD CCD Sensor. Has great sensitivity range (ISO 80 to 3200). The BIONZ processor is quite good and keeps images relatively clean even at ISO 800. The lens quality is great and absolutely no chromatic aberration (colour splitting) takes place at the edges of the picture even when directly shooting at the sun.

  • It uses AA batteries (4) which is a huge bonus under any circumstances. It even gives a pretty good battery life on regular alkaline batteries so if you’re planning to take it on a trekking tour or similar, you won’t have to worry about finding a plug point.

  • Also has 2× Digital zoom, at full 42× zoom, the image is as clear as it was all optical zoom (I believe Sony calls it “Clear Zoom Technology”) The image stabilization (IS) is good, in fact, if you have very steady hands, it thinks it’s on a tripod. The Auto Focus is good while taking pictures, although it has a slight lag and unless you set it to centre, it jumps to whatever object has the sharpest contrast (even if it isn’t your subject). The aperture can be set to only 2 settings and if you decide to increase shutter time under low light, be sure to get a tripod or find stable support.

  • It can be connected to TV via AV cables and can enjoy the slide show on TV. Also TV can be used as a display screen for photography.

  • It gives the feel of DSLR at this Price.

  • It comes with -11 scene modes (Soft Skin, Soft Snap, Day Landscape, Night Portrait, Night Landscape, High Sensitivity, Gourmet, Pet, Snow, Beach and Fireworks).

  • You can use it in Manual mode where you can set ISO, Shutter time & aperture. It’s minimum shutter speed is 30 sec & not 15 sec as they say above.

  • You can crop, reduce red eye and shift the focal centre in camera and also save the edit as a new image using full 16 megapixels. This allows you avoid losing quality if you crop and enlarge the photo later.

Sony DSC-H100 Point & Shoot Disadvantages:

    • Although it says “Optical zoom during video”, in reality this is rather slow. Also when you zoom during video (especially in 1280×720, 30fps) it takes a few seconds for the camera to hunt for the focus, which means for a few seconds everything in the video gets blurred. (Not a great idea if you are video-ing a dance or something similar)

    • You can’t switch between different scene modes (Beach, snow etc.) via the knob on the top; you have to select it through menu or turn the knob from “Scene” to something else and back to “Scene” again.

    • Clicking in a complete dark room (with its in-built flash on) will give the pic as if it is clicked in bright sunlight (Cyber-shot effect)

    • From its advantages you know that this is a big camera & if you have small hands, you might not be very comfortable with it. It’s big and rather heavy so make sure you are comfortable with the weight & size before you buy it.

    • If you decide to shoot everything at the best quality (which I guess most people will), the in-the-box 4GB memory card is practically useless. So I suggest you will need at least a 16GB (SDHC or Memory Stick Duo Pro) card.

    • The panorama modes are very sensitive to the slightest vertical movement. So you’ll need really steady hands or some support.

    • No manual focus (although if you really want manual focus, get an entry-level DSLR).

    • It has a lens cap that is rather loose. Also it takes quite some effort to open the battery compartment.

Sony DSC-H100 Point & Shoot is by far the best in this range if you are looking for good pictures and nice movies under a variety of circumstances. It definitely doesn’t match the quality of a DSLR but then it costs about 1/3rd of a basic DSLR (not including the cost on lenses).

If you have a considerably higher budget, try the Sony DSC HX200V (if you are looking for Sony).

How To Recover The Operating System Of A Sony VAIO Laptop | Recovery Media Kit For SONY VAIO

Here is the information that I found on Sony VAIO.

“Create a Recovery Media Kit (a set of system restore CDS or DVDs) using the VAIO Recovery Wizard provided with the computer’s original factory-installed software”

So, the application is definitely called VAIO Recovery Wizard. That’s the one you are looking for.

    It also states this too….

If your computer does not have the ability to create the discs or if you are unable to locate the original restore discs that shipped with some VAIO computers, contact Sony at 800-488-SONY (7669) or visit the Sony Online Support Web site (http://www.sony.com/pcsupport) to purchase a set of system restore CDs or DVDs.

Here is a link to your products driver and software page:

If you have not modified the orginal hard disk partations on your sony vaio laptop, you can try the following to recover your factory installed OS/Softwares by this method.
First, (at the time of starting the system boot into f10 (press F10 tap tap tap) to start a recovery. If that doesn't work, you either formatted your hdd before and lost the partition, your hdd is shot, or you're one of the few unlucky blokes to have a screwy partition.

Check the Sony Direct Accessories website for a recovery kit, if they don't have them, check sonyrecovery.com, an off shoot of pcrecovery.com, all the oldies. If they don't have them and you can't find them through exstensive web searches, either do as elijahjt did or send the unit to sony for a reimage. At the moment a reimage costs anywhere from 120 to 170 dpending on fedex shipping costs back to your house, this will also replace the partition so that you can go into vaio recovery in the control panel and burn a copy for whenever you need to replace your hdd.

Sony Xperia S Delivers Extremely Useful Features

Recently revealed details have increased our levels of anticipation on Sony Xperia S. Also, in the year 2012, one of our most looked is the Sony Xperia S.

Sony’s planning some truly unique and extremely useful features for its next-gen Android device.

The Sony Xperia S was in prime contention for this year’s MWC show for ‘most anticipated smartphone’.

We know that the Sony Xperia S will finally provide us with a dual-core Sony device – a 1.5GHz chip, no less. Note that the ‘Ericsson’ is missing – that’s because Sony has bought out its Scandinavian partner and future devices will simply be known under the reassuringly techy Sony moniker.

Back to the Xperia S, and it’ll also boast a 4.3-inch HD screen for iPhone 4S Retina display-levels of sharpness. If that’s not enough iPhone-bothering already, how about a 12-megapixel camera with Sony’s typically excellent Exmor R image sensor technology. There’ll also be NFC and a distinctive notification strip that runs the width of the device.

According to Xperia blog, the Sony Xperia S will come with an extraordinary stain-resistant shell. This has been confirmed by Sony itself, over on its Facebook account. Apparently this involves a nano coating that repels dirt – an effect that’s apparently boosted by exposing the phone to the sun’s rays.

Sony Xperia S Delivers Extremely Useful Features

Another cool new feature is the Sony Xperia S’s reported fast charge capabilities. As expanded upon by Phandroid, this will mean that you can pump it with an hour’s worth of juice in just 10 minutes, while 30 minutes will charge the phone to 80 per cent. The system will slow down a little in order to push it to 100 per cent capacity, but mostly full in half an hour sounds good enough to us.

So the Sony Xperia S will be super fast, super sharp, unique-looking, will take top notch pictures, will have (in Android 4.0) one of the finest mobile operating systems ever, will repel dirt, and will charge to almost-full in 30 minutes.

Happy faces, remarkable places. Shoot them in full HD Video and see them shine back from the razor-sharp clarity of the HD Reality Display powered by the Mobile Bravia Engine.

    • 4.3 (10.92 cms) HD Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA® Engine
    • 1.5GHz dual core processor
    • Snap photos in just over 1 second from sleep mode
    • Easy connectivity via HDMI cable or wirelessly with DLNA
    • 32GB internal memory
    • Powered by Android™ 2.3 (upgradable to Android™ 4.0)

So, what more you want Sony Xperia S to give you?

Sony Tablet P Advantages and Disadvantages

We were impressed with the Sony Tablet S when it was released for too long ago, which was remarked as Sony’s first step into the Android Honeycomb realm. Following in suit, the Sony Tablet P sports nearly the same hardware specs, but there’s something visually different about it.

Donning a foldable design, stuffed with two 5.5-inch displays, it’s obviously going to stand out amongst the crop for being, you know, different. Well, its fresh appearance is seemingly eye-catching, but let’s find out if it’s practical for a tablet.

Software version of the reviewed unit:

    • Android Version: 3.2.1
    • Build Number: THNAAS0015400
    • Kernel Version: 2.6.36.3
    From PhoneArena

Simply, we have to say that the Sony Tablet P is a quirky  little one – that’s because our curiosities are stirred upon gazing it for the first time. Thinking about it more, to us, it seems as though Sony has reinvented the clutch bag because when it’s closed,  it really looks like some kind of modern one.

Thankfully, the Sony Tablet P is easily tucked away in a bag due to its smaller footprint when it’s closed, thus, making it extremely travel friendly.

For those wondering about its cameras, there is a VGA front-facing one placed in the top right corner when it’s fully opened, while the other 5-megapixel auto-focus camera is placed oppositely in the outer casing.

Sony Tablet P Advantages and Disadvantages

Sony Tablet P also comes to the table bearing two displays sizing up at 5.5-inches a piece. Considering that each 5.5” TruBlack LCD panel boasts a resolution of 1024 x 480, it’s detailed enough to make out fine text without much fluff.

Along with that, it’s true to its name because the color black is prominently, you know, really dark in tone. Furthermore, its cooler production enables colors to jump out at us – though, its viewing angles are questionable since distortion is evident at moderate angles.

Unfortunately, the biggest distraction we see is the over 1/4" bezel separating the two screens, but even worse are the 1-inch sized bezels surrounding both sides of its displays. Essentially, they make it very difficult to type messages seeing we have to extend our fingers even further to press something.

The dual-screen form factor is effective in garnering attention, but it simply doesn’t work out because we have more frustration just trying to handle it.

Sony Tablet S running Android 3.2.1 Honeycomb out of the box, so we’re naturally presented with the usual rich personalization experience. Beyond that, Sony is kind enough to sprinkle some of its own enhancements throughout various sections of the platform.

For starters, the app panel sports a heavenly white background, while the alternate “favorites” interface is laced with plenty of eye candy visuals to capture the glint in our eyes. Overall, it doesn’t come off as being campy like some if its rivals, but rather, it has this futuristic appeal to it.

At first, we’re taken back by the whole look of the platform, because of its boxy layout as opposed to the more traditional widescreen format. Nevertheless, we’re able to adapt quickly and soon find ourselves moving in and out of things with ease. Seeing that it’s sporting two separate displays, most of its core apps have been optimized to take advantage of it.

When it comes to typing messages, the Sony Tablet P utilizes a practical layout with its on-screen keyboard. As expected, the on-screen keyboard it takes up the entire bottom display, however, there’s one major problem. Remember those large bezels surrounding its displays? Well, they prove to be frustrating since our fingers really need to stretch out more than normal to hit something – so yeah, it’s uncomfortable at times. Thankfully, it’s responsive enough to keep up with our rate.

Strangely, there’s no love given to the Gmail app, since it doesn’t offer the same two-panel layout of its Honeycomb brethren, but instead, its layout is more akin to Android smartphones.

Gamers will undoubtedly take a liking to the Sony Tablet P’s PlayStation certification, which enables it to run some of the older PS One titles. Preloaded with Crash Bandicoot, just like other PlayStation Certified devices we’ve seen already, it’s one thing to be happy about its gaming centric aspect, but it’s another to actually enjoy playing them.  Again, those annoying bezels make it extremely cumbersome controlling our character with the on-scree controls.

1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, coupled with 1GB of RAM, enables Sony Tablet P to handle most basic tasks with minimal effort. Sadly though, it exhibits the same choppy and jerky operations that have been persistent with tablets running Honeycomb.

Storage wise, the tablet packs along 1.84GB of internal storage out of the box, which is further supplemented by its included 2GB microSD card.

    Internet and Connectivity:

Sony Tablet P is nothing more than an HSPA+ enabled device. It’s still admirable as it’s capable of loading complex web sites like ours in under 30 seconds.

Additionally, the Sony Tablet P boasts all the usual connectivity items we normally expect to find – such as aGPS, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, and 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi. Indeed an unfortunate thing, it lacks mobile hotspot functionality.

No arguing it’s becoming a theme throughout the Sony Tablet P, the camera interface is broken down to one part being a gallery, while the other is simply the viewfinder. The bottom screen is reserved for the simplistic looking viewfinder interface. Although it’s not deep with its selection, some will find the available camera options to be useful for fine-tuning shots for the correct situation.

Sadly, there’s no physical video-out function with this one, just like the Sony Tablet S. However, Sony’s Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited services are available to give us a decent dose of multimedia fun. And as an alternative, the tablet offers DLNA functionality to share our multimedia content with other devices wirelessly.

Seriously, it boggles our mind to even know that this dual-screen wielding tablet is powered by a 3,080 mAh battery, we’re able to get to the 10 hour mark on normal usage before it’s completely tapped out.

we have to give credit to Sony for producing something that’s uniquely different – especially for a tablet. On paper, two displays sounds mightily tantalizing, but when it actually boils down to execution, it miserably fails because of the supremely annoying bezels that detract our attention from other things.

Throw in that its hardware is seemingly dated now that we’re seeing more quad-core devices, it doesn’t get any better for this clutch bag like tablet. To make matters worse, its pricing is set to $400 with a 2-year contract or $550 outright, which still seems a tad bit steep for what it’s worth. Besides its cooling looking design, there’s nothing extraordinarily impressive about this one, and simply, it ends up being nothing short of forgettable.

    Pros

    • Cool looking design
    • PlayStation Certified
    • Good build quality

    Cons

    • Large bezels surrounding its displays
    • Choppy performance
    • Shoots terrible photos & videos
    • Horrendous battery life
    • Honeycomb not ICS or or Gingerbread.

I love the design but tablets have been out for some time & to have performance issues is clearly not tolerable.

The 2 major things all tablets must excel in are performance of its OS & battery life. If Sony could have had these 2 things right the score would have been maybe an, 8 to a 9.

The idea was great idea, the design is sharp but the execution was VERY poor. What is the point of having a mobile device with poor battery? What good is it? Sony should know best about portable battery life because they have the PSP & PS Vita. Also they make great cameras with their Cybershot line so why not implement even their basic tech to their tablets/smartphones because then their cameras would be average at best if not above average.

I feel like the premium look of this tablet was wasted with its poor implementation of the OS & the inexcusable battery life!

If something is made to looks premium, then it should also work & perform like it’s premium. What's the use of the two screen? And it's separated by a huge bezel! That's disgusting!!

Sony want to be compatible with Dell and HP. And this new Sony VAIO VPCEH25EN notebook is engineered to meet your entertainment needs at an affordable price.

So far it looks good and can be treated as a very good deal. However, in my personal opinion i wish you should read some points which i think you should consider if you are really serious about a better usability.

I have been using two laptops from Sony, and my personal experience.. the drivers and software's that Sony provides tend to crash. There is no particular place from where you can download ALL of them. (Especially the utility software's). You need to (backup) burn a couple of Dual Layer DVDs and the DVD Drive is useless even with minimum usage, but getting the parts changed (in warranty period) is quick.

    • I feel its very low Hard Disk Capacity. 320 GB (officially), around 280 GB(Bundled), and around 297GB (after formatting)
    • RAM (2GB) is NOT LOW for NORMAL usage, same with Processor.
    • Webcam performs very bad… almost like the olden days VGA Camera.
    • WiFi is poor ( only 1-2MB/s when I was transferring files from another Vaio.
    • The Screen is Awesome!! You won't find better. But the Speakers are pathetic.
    • On the long run, the borders of the screen develop scratches due to folding.
    • The "ASSIST" and "VAIO" keys on the top of my laptop worked only once when i bought this laptop.
    • Headphone and Mic inputs are on the left side. I personally feel better if its in front.
    • No dedicated key for volume. That means, you have to control the volume and brightness using Function “FN” key. But it will work only if your drivers are working perfect.

Overall, If you look style, brand and performance. Sony VAIO VPCEH25EN is good for the current price tag.
