Fix Unexpected Failure with Windows Explorer.exe

The following article will explain you how to troubleshoot problem with Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) when it crash frequently.

If you cant see any desktop icons in your Windows when it boots, one possible reason can be that explorer.exe has not started.  And you will get into the following error message when you are running explorer.exe from the Desktop shortcut or directly from the Windows Directory.

"THIS FILE DOES NOT HAVE A PROGRAM ASSOCIATED WITH IT FOR PERFORMING THIS ACTION. PLEASE INSTALL A PROGRAM OR, IF ONE IS ALREADY INSTALLED, CREATE AN ASSOCIATION IN THE DEAFAULT PROGRAMS CONTROL PANEL."

You will not find any references to the Windows Explorer In the Control Panel Default Programs Section, except for the Windows Search Explorer.

Solution:

Warning: While this solution solves the issue or problem, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk. For more information about modifying the registry, see  Microsoft support article 256986 Also Read More On How To Backup Windows Registry.

To have this problem fixed, you need to modify the registry settings,

have u create a .reg file with editor specified?

Edit the registry yourself by creating this registry patch:

1) Open Notepad:

2) Copy this text and past in notepad:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\opennewprocess\command]
"DelegateExecute"="{11dbb47c-a525-400b-9e80-a54615a090c0}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\opennewwindow\command]
"DelegateExecute"="{11dbb47c-a525-400b-9e80-a54615a090c0}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\opensearchfilefolderresult\shell\open\command]
@=""
"DelegateExecute"="{99969a8f-27e6-4adf-ab9f-b5b5e90d4733}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\explore\command]
"DelegateExecute"="{11dbb47c-a525-400b-9e80-a54615a090c0}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMP11.AssocFile.m3u\shell\Enqueue\command]
"DelegateExecute"="{45597c98-80f6-4549-84ff-752cf55e2d29}"

3) Save the file on your desktop (or anywhere else) as name.reg - ".reg" is important.

4) Run the file and press yes on the two pop ups warning message in your Windows .

If you cant succeed in making that file yourself. You can download the registry patch from this location.

http://www.haja.co/downloads/regfixexplorer.exe.reg

Now your problem should be fixed.
