I just had lost allot of files. Seems this is a major conflict with the Catalyst Control Centre. And I am hoping they are just invisible but recoverable. I installed system mechanic and my machine is stable again but I get error messages for the Catalyst Centre control and the dell support center.
Recently started receiving "Catalyst Control Centre: host application has stopped working" message(s). And I am getting this message twice.
When i first started getting this message i also got another warning saying that there was some error with my hard drive like it had been corrupted, i think it said something like a "delayed write" error message appeared, and i have since then lost most of my desktop icons, all pics, all of my music files that I've composed and written, all word docs, etc.
I tried a Virus Scan at first, defragmented my hard drive, and tried a few system restore points and was able to recover some, not all, desktop icons and my background, but that's about it. all of my files are still gone, I'm not sure if this is two separate issues or both part of the same issue.
In this situation, Microsoft suggests only two solution, and still no one can guarantee that the files lost can be recovered. Some times they can by using some third party software, and it all depends on what troubleshooting methods we followed.
However for Catalyst Control Centre problem, I would suggest you to follow these steps and check if it helps:
Method 1:
Try performing clean boot and check if it helps:

NOTE: After you have finished troubleshooting, make sure you put back the computer to normal startup mode as suggested in step7 from the above KB article.
Method 2:
I would suggest you to follow the steps from the below link and check the hard disk for errors:

Write commentsi pray to God you never try to repair any computer problem of mine with your ill-developed troubleshooting skills... good luck with your Catalyst error.
Replyhey bro, i've just experienced that same problem. it happened just like you said, windows 7 recovery (a so called software i believe) started to scan my computer and it found some so called errors including hard disk error etc. no matter what i've done it almost ruined my pc. removed my programs from start menu, cleaned the desktop background and removed some items like recycle bin, and worst of all start task manager option was not available...
Replyhow i solved it? well, i rebooted and pressed F8 so that i can choose repair my computer option... i had system recovery and voila! i got back my working computer.. the weird thing is that it again gave that catalyst bla bla error, i just closed the window with X, because previous time i pressed on close program and it messed my computer.. did you totally solve it?
And as you are getting this message again, there should be some serious problem in your hard disk. Its better to contact your Manufacture for any help before trying yourself.
ReplyMany thanks for your prayers. I too don't wish to solve any of your computers problem. And anyway, thanks for posting in bench3.
