If on any day you receive the notification that the copy of Windows 7 was not genuine. This normally happens when you do some unattended upgrades in the last few days or week or so. This can happen when you purchased Windows 7 Home and then you did a upgrade to higher versions.
Now even when I try to run small programs like slui.exe , you may get a black screen and a message:
0xC0000022 {Access Denied} A process has requested access to an object, but has not been granted those access rights.
Solution:
The only reasons (that I know of) for getting the "System Error 2 The system cannot find the file specified." error is either:
- 1. The files are missing. That is, the files are not located in their proper folder
- 2. The registry entry that tells Windows were to find the files is messed up in some way. That is, Windows doesn't know what folder to look in or is being told to look in the wrong folder)
Since you have already verified that the files do exist and appear to be in the correct folder I believe the issue is Registry based.
However, Troubleshooting Registry issues can be dangerous. But otherwise I recommend contacting Microsoft Assisted Support (at one of the below URLs) or if you are not successful with that link, as a last resort, reinstall Windows.
