Microsoft Lumia 650 Features

Microsoft finally unveiled the Lumia 650 today. The device was revealed without fanfare and with no launch event; instead it was announced in a post on its Devices Blog.

The Lumia 650 is Microsoft's fourth handset to run Windows 10 Mobile out of the box, following in the footsteps of the Lumias 550, 950 and 950 XL, which it unveiled last October. The ultra-thin device features metallic bodywork and a 5-inch AMOLED screen.

Microsoft Lumia 650 Features

Microsoft Lumia 650 is being aimed at business buyers giving the best customers the best of Microsoft productivity and security, all wrapped in a beautiful slim package. By providing a consistent experience across PC and phone through the power of Windows 10, Surely, rofessionals and Windows fans alike will love using it every day.

The product information page on Microsoft's website also emphasizes that the Lumia 650 is "built for business", although the device doesn't appear to include any unique features not available on its other handsets that make it uniquely suited to business customers.

The main specs of Microsoft Lumia 650 include:

  • 5-inch AMOLED with HD (1280x720px) resolution and Gorilla Glass 3
  • Quad-core 1.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB onboard storage (plus microSD card support up to 200GB)
  • 8MP rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and 720p video recording at 30fps
  • 5MP front-facing camera with continous autofocus, 'video light' and 720p video at 30fps
  • Bluetooth 4.1
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with support for Wi-Fi calling
  • 4G LTE connectivity (bands 1, 3, 7, 8 and 20)
  • NFC support
  • microUSB 2.0 with Type B connector
  • Removable 2000mAh battery
  • 142 x 71 x 6.9mm; 122g

Indeed, the Lumia 650 lacks one of the key features of Windows 10 Mobile that Microsoft has been promoting towards business customers: the PC-like Continuum feature that allows users to connect a mouse and keyboard to a handset, and then connect the handset to a larger display, effectively turning it into a mini-PC, complete with desktop-style user interface and Start menu. The Lumia 650's relatively low-end specs don't support Continuum, and while Microsoft Office, Cortana and OneDrive are also highlighted as benefits of the device for business buyers, these features are available not just on other Windows 10 Mobile handsets, and older Windows Phones, but even on Android and iOS.

Microsoft Lumia 650 Features 2

Microsoft Lumia 650 is also available in Dual-SIM version, another feature popular with business users who frequently travel to other countries.

The Lumia 650 will go on sale "in select European markets" from February 18, with a suggested retail price of $199 USD before taxes and subsidies. That converts directly to £137 GBP / €178 EUR /Rs.13,550 INR / $279 AUD - but those conversions should only be taken as a rough guide, as local pricing may differ in specific markets.

The Lumia 650 is rumored to be the last handset in Microsoft's Lumia range, as the company is said to be focusing its mobile development efforts on the 'Surface phone', expected later this year.

Before getting started please note that Its a little bit lengthy review ,but I can guarantee you that its worth your time.I would feel much appreciated if my review was helpful. Also please note that I am not a fanboy to any brand.I am just a tech enthusiast with years of experience in Windows phone.

The Microsoft Lumia Flagship was the most anticipated windows phone of 2015. Rumours started up with the launch of Lumia 940 ,which was then cancelled and ended up in the launch of 950. Exactly as the case with windows 9. The main reason to love windows phone is the amazing battery life, 36 months promised updates and of course the premium camera sensors that came way from Nokia Days.

Now coming to the Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Dual, Here is a quick look up on the specification of Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM

Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Dual Design and Build Quality

Looking at the refreshed and highly premium design of other flagships from HTC, SAMSUNG, APPLE AND SONY, Microsoft hasn't invested much on its design department. They just packed it with a polycarbonate casing. It may disappoint people those who love premium metal and aluminium framed Phones.

But still a lot of people like its design and looking at its specification, the design just doesn't matter.
Build quality is great though it looks a bit more budget. It feels great when you hold it, lies flat on a table and doesn't feel heavy or slippery. The handset weighs 150 grams . its a very compact 5.7 inch phone which is perfect for single handed use and much more portable.

Just for some comparison, the 4.7 inch iPhone 6s weighs 143 grams, iPhone 6s plus at 155 grams, HTC ONE M9 at 157 g and S6 edge weighs 132 g. In practice, none of the design gimmicks matters as like 90% of owners, the phone has been put into a silicon skin to protect it from bumps, so all the guff about finish and feel are irrelevant anyway.

Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Dual Display Quality

The OLED display with Nokia's clear black technology looks fabulous. Its one of the sharpest and brightest display present in the market. It has great picture clarity exactly as if a 24 inch LED display is compressed to a 5.2 inch OLED. Its OLED and the blacks are very deep especially for the dark mode in windows 10.

The videos and the photos look great, nothing to complain here. The sunlight readability is superb and very bright. The light sensors does the job flawlessly in adjusting the screen brightness.
As in most of the windows phone, Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM also has this super sensitive touch screen for using it with gloves and It does matter a lot. The browsing experience with Microsoft edge is superb. This time they have a great browser to compete with.

WINDOWS 10 on Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Dual?

Microsoft is doing the best they could and should do to improve the OS and its functionality. With windows 10 the story climbs up another milestone. The complete UI experience has improved with added functionality and features.

Of course windows phone doesn't have the bloatware that others have. Live tiles, like the Photo tile, really are nice, with the latest news scrolling on the News tile, latest apps for sale on the Store button etc. The start screen looks so dynamic With windows 10 in this phone, you can expand external memory upto 200GB. I heard you saying Who needs 200GB" the answer is, of course you need at least its a future proof thing.

As of my initial usage with windows 10 for phone, the OS still has some bugs which needed to be fixed. This is not a big deal or something to worry because Microsoft were releasing insider builds at least every two weeks.

Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Dual Apps:

Thi Big Questions- Microsoft has provided all the necessary apps that users in US need and they have no complaints about that. But in India it still lags in terms of app support. Even the apps available in the store are not as feature rich as the Android or IOS Apps. And of course most of the good quality apps are paid, while the same app runs free on ANDROID DEVICES (with annoying ads).

In general, windows phone 10 OS is beautiful, decent, feature rich and a lot customisable. The upcoming Redstone builds looks promising.

HARDWARE PERFORMANCE AND HEATING

Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM running windows 10 OS has not faced any lag issues yet. Its very fast and responsive. The opening and switching between apps are very fluid. Its a fact that windows phone are less performance demanding, it would run smoothly even on a 1 GB ram device. Just the case with lumia 730.

The 950 has the snapdragon 808 chipset compared to the 810 in 950XL which has better performance scores including the heating issues.

The entire chipset is good enough to handle all the HD games ,videos and stuff which demand extreme performance. As of the current windows store apps and games, the Lumia 950 can run all of them at full functionality.

Calling and the overall sound quality of the device is very premium. No call drops, no issues. The speakers sound output also sounds great.

Despite all it does get a little warm while long term usage or on heavy load. Obviously its expected when the system is on high load and on any device. But lets see if Microsoft to fix it in the upcoming builds. Newbies please note that Heat is the by-product of power at our current level of technology.

CAMERA SENSOR

Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM has 20MP pureview camera (The pureview thing does make a difference). Its not just about the Mega pixels, but it has much more than that. One important detail about the 950's camera is that is has a 20MP true 16:9 sensor unlike the iphone which has a 4:3 sensor. This is quite important as the vast majority of our monitors and TV have a 16:9 aspect ratio. So the 950 takes wider imagines at full res and that is one clear advantage it has in comparison to an iphone camera among many others.

The camera quality is truly great and no surprise here. The zooming clarity is stunning. The pictures are very well saturated to give that natural look with a slighter touch of bright colours. The autofocus feature works as intended. The exposure levels and everything else is well collaborated.

In low light, Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM is better than most. There is also this really cool feature when taking a photo with flash where you can change the lighting effect to reduce the effect of the flash, which really improved some harshly lit photos. Very clever.

Now coming to the video recording, It can record upto 4k resolution. Which turned out to be really beautiful in terms of overall colours and sharpness. The ability to adjust exposure and stuff with windows 10 camera and that even while the recording is live, is a good feature windows phone has.

It also support the slow motion videos which does need some great hardware. Though at 128 fps it can record upto 720p only. And it appeared great with good amount of light available. Be aware that slow motion videos need good amount for light for better results with every phone.

BATTERY LIFE

Windows phone have always been better in terms of battery life they offer. Though with Lumia 950 the battery life is just decent. I kept my expectation higher with this thing. It can give you a full day with moderate usage and 7+ hours with heavy usage. The on-screen time is comparably better than other flagships with full HD + displays. The battery is replaceable which is great if somehow you got the battery damaged after the guarantee period.

There is nothing like a battery draining issue. Its just because of the highly juice demanding hardware. But the plus point it has is the Fast charging feature It works brilliantly. In 30 minutes of charging at 40% initial charge, Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM is going to be back to 85-90% charge. Absolutely brilliant.

There is a battery saver mode in windows 10 which works pretty well and does help getting through the day with enough juice remaining in the end.

SOME OTHER GREAT FEATURES

  1. The Lumia 950 has wireless charging along with Hello and Continuum.
  2. HELLO works flawlessly though its a bit slower compared to the finger print scanning technology.
  3. Continuum is awesome for and it has even more to offer in the future.
  4. Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM supports OTG
  5. Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM does not come with a free disply dock for free. You need to pay an extra price for the same. Its available at this amazon link http://goo.gl/BC3fYO

Final Words on Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Dual

There is no denying that lumia 950 is a fabulous smartphone. Its feature rich in terms of hardware. If you prioritise a great screen, good camera, expandable memory and CONTANIUM then look no further. Windows Phone OS is great in its own class.

When You Should Upgrade Your Software

Never upgrade?. Have you thought that you always needed the latest and greatest version of your software.” No, you don’t. My firm conviction is that software vendors (not just Microsoft) want you to always have the latest version of their software. If I were working for a software vendor, I would want you to have our latest software, as well.
If you ask vendors why they want you to upgrade, they won’t say “So we can enhance our bottom line.” Instead, they focus on new features, increased productivity, or fewer problems.

Weren’t these the same reasons they gave you for upgrading to the version you currently have? Yep. It’s all part of the game — the game to get you to keep upgrading. The problem with upgrades is that they usually include features that you got along just fine without for years, and probably won’t use now even though they’re included. These add to the software’s bloat, making it fatter, slower, and more resource-hungry than ever.

When you upgrade software, you run the risk of cluttering up your system with pieces and parts of programs left behind in the upgrade process. Upgrading only when you need to helps minimize this process and make cleaning Windows easier. (I’m not ranting against software companies; they have a right to sell their wares and attempt to convince you that your life is happier, safer, and more fulfilling once you get the latest version of Widget Whacker Deluxe. You just need to look at software differently than how the software companies want you to.) So when do you need to upgrade? You should upgrade at these times:
  • If you’re developing your own products that rely on the newest versions of the software
  • If you must remain compatible with people or companies using the newer versions
Make sure you have a solidly thought-out reason for upgrading before you plunk down your hard-earned cash.

  • 805 You cannot dial using this connection at logon time, because it is configured to use logged on user's credentials.
  • 806 The VPN connection between your computer and the VPN server could not be completed. The most common cause for this failure is that at least one Internet device (for example, a firewall or a router) between your computer and the VPN server is not configured to allow Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) protocol packets. If the problem persists, contact your network administrator or Internet Service Provider.
  • 807 The network connection between your computer and the VPN server was interrupted. This can be caused by a problem in the VPN transmission and is commonly the result of internet latency or simply that your VPN server has reached capacity. Please try to reconnect to the VPN server. If this problem persists, contact the VPN administrator and analyze quality of network connectivity.
  • 808 The network connection between your computer and the VPN server could not be established because the remote server refused the connection. This is typically caused by a mismatch between the server's configuration and your connection settings. Please contact the remote server's Administrator to verify the server configuration and your connection settings.
  • 809 The network connection between your computer and the VPN server could not be established because the remote server is not responding. This could be because one of the network devices (e.g, firewalls, NAT, routers, etc) between your computer and the remote server is not configured to allow VPN connections. Please contact your Administrator or your service provider to determine which device may be causing the problem.
  • 810 A network connection between your computer and the VPN server was started, but the VPN connection was not completed. This is typically caused by the use of an incorrect or expired certificate for authentication between the client and the server. Please contact your Administrator to ensure that the certificate being used for authentication is valid.
  • 811 The network connection between your computer and the VPN server could not be established because the remote server is not responding. This is typically caused by a pre-shared key problem between the client and server. A pre-shared key is used to guarantee you are who you say you are in an IP Security (IPSec) communication cycle. Please get the assistance of your administrator to determine where the pre-shared key problem is originating.
  • 812 The connection was prevented because of a policy configured on your RAS/VPN server. Specifically, the authentication method used by the server to verify your username and password may not match the authentication method configured in your connection profile. Please contact the Administrator of the RAS server and notify them of this error.

Microsoft Security Essentials Pros and Cons

Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) has become the world's second most popular security package in less than two years since its 2009 launch.

MSE is one of the simplest and easiest to use anti-malware tools around. It's quick, unobtrusive and works without slowing your PC down.

Malware is caught quickly, and the default actions work well for most users. It's a small download, and keeps itself up-to-date. And above all, it's free – with no need to register or re-register.

If you're not running anti-virus software, you really have no excuse. MSE is free, simple to use and has been tested by independent anti-malware certification bodies. With Microsoft regularly updating MSE there's really no excuse to not run anti-malware tools, when they're as good as this – and especially when they're free.

Available for Windows XP (Service Pack 2 and higher), Windows Vista and Windows 7, and in both 32- and 64-bit form, Microsoft Security Essentials is part of the Genuine Windows programme, and can only be used on consumer PCs.

Microsoft Security Essentials Pros and Cons

Small businesses do have an exemption, and can run it on up to 10 machines; any more than that and you need to use Microsoft's Forefront Endpoint Protection tools. It's a small download, the latest beta version is 9MB for 32-bit machines, and 11MB for 64-bit.

There's no obvious slowdown when it runs, and all you see is a tiny task bar icon that shows whether your PC is protected or not. Right-click to launch a settings tool and to run scans – with a choice of quick, full or custom.

Installation is quick and easy. Once installed, a small icon in the task bar is the only sign that MSE is installed and running, and it changes colour depending on the risk to your PC.

Green is, of course, good and yellow means that it's time to run a scan. And if it is Red, it is critical…

MSE will automatically run a quick scan once a week, although we'd recommend changing the default 2am on Sunday to a time when your PC is likely to be turned on.

You can limit the amount of CPU that MSE will use for a scan (the default is 50%), and you can also make sure it won't scan if you're using your PC. We'd recommend leaving real-time protection on - it won't use too much power or add significant latency to downloads, and will reduce the risk of downloading malware inadvertently.

Other tools built into MSE let you tune it to exclude specific files and locations from scanning, as well as specific file types and even specific processes. You're better off not changing these settings, since it's impossible to predict how malware may disguise itself or what zero-day attacks they might use. A custom scan will check specific files, folders, or drives, while a full scan will check everything on your PC. We'd suggest sticking with quick scans for everyday operation, which look for common malware and check system files.

The advanced options in MSE's Settings tab enable you to include removable drives in scans, to protect flash drives as well as your system disks. You can turn off archive scanning (although we'd recommend leaving it on, since it's able to detect malware wrapped in several layers of zip compression). Other options enable you to set system restore points automatically before making system changes, including deleting, running or quarantining detected malware.

You're also able to set how long MSE will keep quarantined files before automatically deleting them. Use the History tab to see and remove quarantined malware, with links to online information about the malware so you can decide whether to delete a file or not.

Why Microsoft Security Essentials is Free?

So how can Microsoft give a tool like this away for free? While it doesn't advertise it, MSE is part of Microsoft's Forefront suite of security tools, based on the Forefront Endpoint Protection client used on enterprise desktops. When MSE detects malware it reports back to Microsoft, giving the company a wider view of the security landscape than it would get from just its enterprise security software. With millions of free copies of MSE, Microsoft's paying customers get a more responsive and more secure set of tools, and we all get better security.

The reporting system Microsoft uses is its Active Protection Service (previously known as SpyNet). You can choose whether to be part of it, but if you don't, you won't get full protection from MSE, since it won't detect and alert you if unknown software has been download or is being run.

Basic membership gives you additional protection in return for sending Microsoft details of downloaded and detected software, while Advanced membership sends more details, including how the software runs, what filenames it uses and where it installs.

The process should be anonymous, but there is a slim possibility that personal information could accidentally be sent back as part of reporting malware behavior – something to consider when signing up for the Active Protection Service.

Finally, MSE may not have all the features of other security suites out there, but that's really not that important – especially when widespread use of MSE should help make it a safer internet for everyone.
