Fix Black Desktop Background In Windows 7 | Windows 7 Background Image Problem

Right clicking the desktop and changing the desktop background has no effect rather than just the black background.  I have experienced this recently, Right Clicking several times on the desktop and trying to change the “background picture" on windows 7  through graphic properties takes the desktop into black. And I was not able to change the pictures or themes or stuff like that.

And when I try to keep another image as the desktop background through right clicking the image, the following error occurs. "This file can not be used the background as. An internal error has occurred."

A reboot or the system restore is not giving any fix or solution for the black background and the system does not display background images. And changing the different themes has no effect and it only changes the Windows Taskbar and again a different message "non-stored design" in the list, which then only shows the black background, and the standard is.

Later I have found a fix for this issue and here is the detailed instructions for fixing the black background in Windows 7:

  • Open a window (or Computer)
  • In the address bar or location bar type in the following:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\

  • Then delete TranscodedWallpaper.jpg
  • Now try to change your desktop background or the theme. I hope this should work in your favor now.
  • If this didn't work, you might have to delete the (hidden file) slideshow.ini as well,  but then you'll have to restart your PC.

After you restart you're probably free to set a new wallpaper/slideshow/theme.

here is a steps to enable your Windows 7 or Windows Vista PC to show or view the hidden file slideshow.ini

  • Press Alt + T When you are in Computer or other Folders
  • Select Folder Options and navigate to the following location.
  • View
  • Click the radio box "Show hidden files, folders or drives"
  • Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)".

And if you receive any pop up warning message, just give yes and continue.

  11. thanks for posting this fix as I've tried several suggestions but they did not work for me. It was even better that the fix was as simple as deleting the TranscodedWallpaper.jpg file for me.
